There is no fee for entering a film at the Festival.
Registration at the Short Film Market : Free of charge provided
that a specific copy has been received by the deadline.
How do I enter my
film at the Festival?
- read the regulations
- use the online entry module
- print out the entry form and sign it
- send it at the Festival office before the deadline
- with a DVD (no authoring) of the film.
Can
I enter my film even if it does not have a production company behind
it?
Yes of course you can.

What format shall
I send when entering my film at the Festival?
A DVD (all zones accepted) for Festival preview.
What format
shall I send when registering my film at the Market?
When registering your film at the Market, you need to send a
second copy with the best possible quality, in DVD or Mpeg 4 file for the encoding of your
film.
What else
shall I send with my film for a valid Festival entry?
With the preview DVD:
- send the pdf form, printed out and signed
When entering your film online please attach the following:
- one still from the film or more (either colour or black and
white depending on the film)
- a photo of the director
- a list/transcription of the dialogue in both the original
version and a French or an English translation
using the Attachments from the entry module.
Why
do you ask for a list/transcription of dialogue?
We need all written or spoken text that appears in the film
in order to prepare French subtitles and an English translation
by headsets.
What
is the maximum duration for a film to be accepted ?
Films of 40 minutes or less are eligible.
What
genres are accepted ?
Any type of film (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental)
can be submitted to the selection committee. Industrial or commercial
films are not accepted.
Does
my sceening copy need to be subtitled?
There is no obligation. Yet we recommend that non-French-speaking
films are sent to us with French or English subtitles and that
French-speaking films are sent to us with English subtitles.
Does the Festival require
premieres?
No, the Festival does not require premieres, but we do not plan
to be last on the festivals circuit. When your film is ready,
just send it to us.
Can
you send an entry form to me?
The entry form is only accessible online via the shortfilmdepot
website. No entry form can be sent by mail, fax or e-mail.
Can I enter
my film later in the year?
Film entries via the shortfilmdepot can be made all-year-round.
Yet you must enter your film before the Clermont-Ferrand deadline
for it to be considered for the Clermont-Ferrand Festival.
What
is the difference between entering my film at the Festival or
via the shortfilmdepot?
The shortfilmdepot enables you to enter your film all-year-round
once, with an entry form that suits the requirements of a common
entry form acknowledged by many festivals. Yet filling out your
form is just the first step. You will then need to send the
required documents, like the signed printed version of the form.
How can
my film be visible at the Market video library?
You need to register your film at the Market and send a specific
copy.
Attention : only films entered at the Clermont-Ferrand
Short Film Festival can be registered at the Short Film
Market.
What
screening formats are accepted at the Festival?
35mm, Digital Betacam Pal or Beta SP Pal.
What
shooting formats are accepted?
All formats are accepted: film, video, digital, scratches on
film, etc.
Can
my film be screened at 25 frames/second?
All the Festival venues are not yet equipped for 25 frames/second
projections.
Can
my film be screened with Dolby SRD?
All the Festival venues are not yet equipped for Dolby sound.
Can
I get my film back after its last screening at the Festival?
Screening copies can be collected after the first closing ceremony.
Complaints regarding the condition of these film prints will
only be dealt with if a verification slip dating back from before
the Festival has been handed over to us.
Can I
get my Festival preview DVD or Mpeg 4 file back?
Mpeg 4 files, DVDs and all additional material will be kept
in the Festival's resource centre and may be consulted at leisure.
Can I get the encoded version
of my film?
For the time being, only representative bodies can purchase
a hard disk version of the films they are representing.
What
is the Lab Competition?
It is a competition of films selected among the films entered
for the National and International Competitions and chosen by
a specific selection committee (different from those of the
two aforementioned competitions) after the National and International
selections have been completed. Films are chosen depending on
their capacity for exploring new narrative forms or for moving
away from narration.
Can I enter
a film for the Lab Competition?
There is no specific entry for the Lab Competition. The International
Selection Committee will submit a pre-selection of films from
which the Lab Selection Committee will choose the international
films competing in the Lab Competition.
Will
I be able to submit my film again later if not selected?
No. Each year, the selection is made on films that have not
already been submitted to the selection committee.
Can
I submit a new version of my film (new edit, different title,
additional special FX
) that was submitted last year but
was not really finished?
Sorry, but the selection is exclusively made on films that have
not already been submitted to the selection committee.
Can
I enter a film at the Festival if I do not have the rights to
the music?
Yes, and it is ok for the Festival to screen it, but you will
not be in a position to sell your film without prior payment
of these rights.
When
and how will I know if my film was selected?
The list of the selected films will be available on the Festival's
Website from December 15.
